When Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup featured this product in her 5-minute Makeup video I thought I might have finally found a tinted moisturiser that would work for me. I have very fair skin and freckles and every tinted moisturiser for fair skin that I’ve tried ends up being too dark for my skin tone.
The blurb on the Garnier website says that the Miracle Skin products contain micro pigments that are released on contact with your skin and self-adjust to your skin tone making skin texture appear improved and your complexion look more even.
Self adjusting pigments you say? Count me in! Off I trundle to Boots where I do flinch a bit at the £12.99 price tag but I’m sure that this time I have found my Holy Grail tinted moisturiser. I picked up the eye cream as well. In for a penny, in for a pound is my motto apparently.
As you can see this hasn’t really adjusted to my skin tone at all. I mean not even a teeny tiny bit. It came out of the tube white and after I mixed it a bit with my fingers it turned a shade of orange that brings the words American Tan Tights to mind.
When I applied the cream to my face it went on even darker. I had a visible “tide line” between my face and neck that no amount of blending would shift. Rather than blurring and concealing imperfections to improve my complexion the cream clung to my dry patches before crumbling and flaking off. It took four goes with a flannel to remove all traces of the product from my face and I still ended up breaking out in an angry red rash that evening.
After the disastrous results of the skin cream I was a little reluctant to try the eye cream but I wanted to give a full review of the product line. I applied a small dab of the cream under each eye and blended it in with my fingers, being sure to avoid my actual eyeballs. Within seconds my eyes were burning and watering and it felt like I’d had lemon juice squirted in my eyes. Hours later my eyes were still bloodshot and watery. I do have sensitive eyes but I’ve never experienced a reaction like that before.
Needless to say both products were returned to Boots for a full refund. The whole messy disaster has pretty much turned me off Garnier skin products for life which is a shame as I liked the look of their 5 Second Perfect Blur primer but I can’t bring myself to try it.
So my search for a tinted moisturiser for my pale skin continues. Any suggestions?
