You know that feeling when something you’ve been wishing and planning for actually comes to fruition? That is the feeling I have about our summer.
I’m not saying it was perfect because, let’s be realistic here, life with a ‘spirited’ four year old can be a bit of a trial. There was an increased level of shoutiness from both Bubs and myself that is just the soundtrack to our lives at the moment but in amongst the grumpiness our days were pretty great.
Last summer I decided against writing a Summer Bucket List. Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to take part in any adventures made that summer bittersweet to say the least and it’s still difficult to look back at photos from that time.
This year though. Oh this year couldn’t have been more different. I was determined to wring every last bit of fun out of those six weeks before Bubs started school. This year I would and could be present. Involved. Enjoying that feeling of just being in the moment.
I wrote a long list of things we wanted to do and, with the exception of one or two things that proved to be a logistical nightmare when you factored in four adults, a child and three dogs, we ticked off nearly everything.
We blew bubbles, ate gallons of ice cream and complained about the heat (that might’ve just been me). We went on steam trains, flew kites and had water fights. We made daisy chains, picked mountains of strawberries and spent a whole day making jam. We smiled and laughed and… just lived.
And because I’m such a shutterbug I took hundreds of photos on my DSLR and filled three rolls of film too. I’ll leave you with a few of my favourite shots from the summer.
