By the time you read this Hubs, Bubs and I will be wending our merry way to the Cotswolds for a 2 day mini-break. Of course I’m packing as if we were spending two months in the Sahara Desert; a habit I don’t think I’ll ever be able to break! I have tried very hard to whittle my makeup and skincare bits n bobs down to just the essentials.
For my eyes I use a cream eyeshadow crayon as I can blend it with my fingers so there’s no need to bring a brush. For daytime I use the N07 Shade & Define in Mink – a nice taupe-beige colour which looks like you’ve made more of an effort than you have. The Rimmel Scadaleyes is a lovely bronze colour and is great for a smokier evening look. I forgo mascara in the summer as I find it just attracts pollen and leaves me with itchy, watery eyes.
The Jane Iredale Cheek & Lip Stain is a great dual purpose product. It’s one of those clever ones that adapts to your skin chemistry. It gives a nice wash of natural colour to your cheeks and turns to a ‘your lips but better’ shade when applied to the lips.
For lips I’ve chosen an old favourite and a new addition. I do love the NYC 16 Hour LipStain as it sticks around for quite a while (not 16 hours though!) and doesn’t need loads of retouching. For the evening I’ll add a slick of the No7 on top. Ha, I’m saying ‘”the evening” like we’ll be dining at the Ritz rather than the local Little Chef!
Lastly, to clean up any little smudges I’ve popped some Q-Tips into my makeup bag. They’re also great for blending out the cream shadows if you don’t want to use your fingers.

To wash all of that off again at the end of the day I’m bringing along my old favourite Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. This is the travel size that I got in last month’s Birchbox and it comes with a muslin cloth too. There’s a reason this has won so many awards. I’ve done a (very) brief review of it as part of my last Daily Skincare Routine post.
For the toning stage I’m using the Caudalie Beauty Elixir which smells wonderful and feels very light, refreshing and tingly on the skin. On top of this I lightly pat on a few drops of the L’Occitane Divine Lotion which, to me, feels like a combination between a micellar water and hair conditioner. Thick but watery, if you see what I mean. It’s wonderfully light, smells beautiful and is my favourite step in my current routine.
For eye cream I’ve grabbed the ESPA one as it’s dinky and doesn’t take up too much room in my toiletries bag. I find that eye creams are pretty much a muchness so I chop and change them quite a lot.
That’s where my evening routine ends while I’m away. I don’t put a night cream on because I don’t like leaving big greasy marks on hotel pillows. In the morning I’ll repeat the whole process again but finish up with the Soap & Glory Feel Good Factor as it’s a lightweight BB cream with SPF 25 in it. It give a nice base for my makeup and I don’t have to worry about putting sunblock on my face.
